Mon Apr 14 09:30:55 UTC 2025: ## Chennai’s Arcot Road Remains a Nightmare for Commuters Amid Metro Construction

**Chennai, April 14, 2025** – Commuters in Chennai are continuing to face severe difficulties traveling along Arcot Road, a major artery in the city, due to ongoing Chennai Metro Rail Phase II construction. The elevated section of Corridor 4, running from Poonamallee to Kodambakkam via Vadapalani, has left the road in a dilapidated state for years.

Residents report numerous issues, including severely constricted road width, large potholes, and a complete lack of footpaths in many sections. This has led to significantly increased commute times and safety concerns, particularly for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. One resident, Arumainathan, reported his commute time to Vadapalani has increased from 15 minutes to over 30 minutes during peak hours.

While Chennai Metro Rail has attempted to alleviate the problem by removing some barricades, the exposed construction materials and poorly repaired road surfaces remain a hazard. Syed Ibrahim, another resident, highlighted the recurring nature of the problem, with temporary repairs quickly deteriorating. He expressed concern over the lack of accountability and the poor quality of work by the contractor.

In response to these complaints, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials stated they have requested the contractor to relay the road and will conduct an urgent inspection to ensure a swift resolution. However, until repairs are completed and sustained, commuters will continue to endure dangerous and time-consuming travel along Arcot Road.
