Sun Apr 13 01:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Congress Aims to Reclaim Lost Ground, Focuses on Gujarat in AICC Meeting

**Ahmedabad, Gujarat, April 10, 2025** – The Indian National Congress (INC) held a two-day All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting in Ahmedabad, April 8-9, marking a significant shift in its strategy. The meeting comes amidst a period of prolonged electoral setbacks for the party, which has seen its vote share and social base drastically erode since its 2014 general election defeat.

The party acknowledges the loss of support among Dalits, Bahujans, OBCs, and minorities, a key factor contributing to its decline. Addressing this, the AICC meeting focused on regaining the trust of these communities. Key resolutions included pushing for a caste census and increased reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minorities, in both the public and private sectors. Rahul Gandhi, the party’s Lok Sabha leader, emphasized the crucial role of a caste census in addressing the nation’s challenges. The AICC also passed a resolution, “Nyaypath: Sankalpa, Samarpan, Sangharsh”, reaffirming its commitment to social justice as the foundation of true nationalism.

However, the AICC meeting’s focus extended beyond broad policy. For the first time in 64 years, the AICC convened in Ahmedabad, signaling the party’s concentrated effort to win Gujarat, a state ruled by the BJP for three decades. A dedicated resolution, titled “Why Gujarat Needs Congress”, highlighted the party’s determination to break the BJP’s stronghold in the upcoming Assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi declared the party’s intention to defeat the BJP in Gujarat, launching the slogan “Nutan Gujarat – Nutan Congress” (New Gujarat – New Congress). The success of this ambitious strategy remains to be seen, but the party’s unwavering commitment to reclaiming Gujarat is clear.
