**Hyderabad, April 12, 2025** – A widespread outage of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system caused significant disruption to online transactions across India today. Multiple users reported failed payments, even for small amounts, with error messages citing recipient bank network issues.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI, acknowledged the intermittent technical problems in a post on X (formerly Twitter). They stated that they were working to resolve the issue and apologized for the inconvenience.

This marks the third major outage of the popular payment system in recent times, following a similar disruption last month. The widespread reliance on UPI for everyday transactions makes these outages particularly impactful for millions of users. NPCI has yet to provide an estimated time for full service restoration.
