Fri Apr 11 13:47:42 UTC 2025: ## UN Condemns Israeli Strikes Killing Only Women and Children in Gaza
**Gaza City, Palestine** – The United Nations has issued a scathing condemnation of Israeli air strikes in Gaza, revealing that at least 36 attacks between March 18th and April 9th resulted in the deaths of only women and children. This alarming finding comes amidst a wider Israeli military offensive that has killed over 1,500 Palestinians since a ceasefire ended in March, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that the UN documented 224 Israeli strikes on residential buildings and displacement camps during this period. She highlighted the disturbing pattern where, in 36 confirmed instances, only women and children were killed.
The situation in Gaza has been described as catastrophic by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who noted a complete blockade on aid for over a month. He characterized Gaza as a “killing field” where civilians are trapped in a “death loop.” This blockade has exacerbated the suffering caused by the ongoing attacks, with essential supplies like food, water, and medicine critically lacking.
Friday alone witnessed at least 15 more Palestinian deaths, including 10 members of a single family – seven of whom were children – killed in a home bombing in Khan Younis. Al Jazeera reports widespread trapping of civilians under rubble, with rescue crews hearing the cries of trapped children.
Shamdasani expressed deep concern that Israel’s actions are creating conditions incompatible with the “continued existence as a group” of Palestinians in Gaza. This concern is amplified by the forced displacement of approximately 400,000 Palestinians, according to UNRWA, and Israel’s continued military offensive and plans to seize more territory. The UN agency is urgently calling for unimpeded humanitarian access to the besieged enclave. Israel, however, has vowed to continue its military operation.
