**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, April 12, 2025** – A pregnant woman died at an unregistered private hospital in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, after undergoing surgery, prompting police to arrest three doctors on charges of negligence. The administration has recommended the closure of the facility, Nandini Hospital, located in the Shahpur Jot area.
According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sanjay Sharma, the hospital’s operator, Dr. D.K. Vishwakarma, was issued a notice after the family of the deceased, Manna Devi, filed a complaint alleging medical negligence. Devi, a resident of Shravasti district, underwent surgery at the hospital on March 29th and died the following day.
Following a lack of response to official inquiries, a state health department inspection was conducted on April 3rd. Upon arrival of the inspection team, Dr. Vishwakarma fled, locking the hospital doors. A case was subsequently registered on April 8th against Dr. Vishwakarma, Dr. R.K. Singh, and Dr. Preeti Sharma under Section 106(1) of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence).
While the administration has recommended sealing the hospital, the presence of a residential complex within the building is currently hindering this action. The hospital remains closed, and Dr. Vishwakarma has been ordered not to resume operations without the necessary departmental permissions.
