CHENNAI, April 12, 2025 – Nainar Nagenthran has been elected as the new president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, the party announced Friday. He was the sole candidate nominated for the post. The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) by BJP president J.P. Nadda, who praised outgoing president K. Annamalai for his contributions to the party.
Mr. Nagenthran, a 64-year-old veteran politician, previously served as a Minister in the AIADMK government from 2001-2006. He joined the BJP in 2017 and has since served as state vice president and Legislature Party Leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. His nomination was supported by several prominent BJP figures including Mr. Annamalai, Union Minister L. Murugan, and former Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan. While he has contested several elections, including unsuccessfully in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he holds the Tirunelveli Assembly seat.
Mr. Nadda lauded Mr. Annamalai’s work, highlighting his success in promoting the party’s policies and programs throughout the state. He indicated that Mr. Annamalai’s organizational skills will continue to be utilized within the national BJP framework.
