The incident, which reportedly occurred in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, shows several men brutally assaulting the animal with sticks, pulling out its nails, and inflicting other grievous injuries. The bear is seen writhing in pain in the video, with blood coming from its mouth.
Forest officials confirmed the authenticity of the video and have launched an investigation. Chief Conservator of Forest RC Dugga stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. A joint team from the Sukma forest division and range officers has been formed to locate the individuals seen in the video. Authorities have announced a ₹10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.
Under the law, those found guilty of such animal cruelty face up to two years imprisonment. The incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and increased public awareness regarding the prevention of animal abuse.
