**Los Angeles, CA** – Director James Hawes, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, offered new insights into HBO’s highly anticipated Green Lantern series, *Lanterns*. While acknowledging comparisons to *True Detective*, Hawes emphasized the show’s unique tone. “It’s a buddy cop structure with sophisticated time travel elements,” he stated, adding that the series will have “more wit and humor” than the acclaimed crime drama, drawing further comparisons to films like *No Country for Old Men* and *Fargo*.
Hawes also praised Aaron Pierre’s performance, describing the actor as having “a magnificent presence…so forceful, so cool, so understated.” He highlighted the series’ grounded approach, stating that while the existence of Green Lanterns and aliens is accepted, the rest of the story remains rooted in reality.
Regarding his experience working with DC Studios, Hawes expressed enthusiasm, calling it “inspiring and supportive and truly thrilling.”
The star-studded cast includes Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Nathan Fillion (reprising his Guy Gardner role), Garret Dillahunt, Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Sherman Augustus, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and Chris Coy. James Hawes, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov will direct the series, which is executive produced by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Tom King, Hawes, and Ron Schmidt. Based on the DC Comics property, *Lanterns* is one of the most anticipated projects from the newly formed DC Studios.
