**NEW DELHI** – Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was extradited from the United States and arrived in India on Thursday evening. The 64-year-old, a close associate of David Coleman Headley (Daood Gilani), landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 6:30 pm and was subsequently produced before the Patiala House Court around 10:30 pm.
Rana’s extradition follows a final unsuccessful attempt to avoid repatriation. He was flown back to India on a special flight accompanied by a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
The 26/11 attacks, carried out by ten Pakistani terrorists, resulted in the deaths of 166 people. The coordinated assault targeted a railway station, two luxury hotels, and a Jewish center. The terrorists infiltrated Mumbai via the Arabian Sea. Rana’s alleged role in the conspiracy is significant, given his close ties to Headley, a key conspirator in the attacks.
