**Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh – April 11, 2025** – A 61-day fishing ban will come into effect in the Bay of Bengal at midnight on April 14th, officials announced. The ban, implemented annually to protect marine fish breeding, will affect motorized fishing boats in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. Traditional, non-motorized boats will be permitted to continue fishing, along with those operating in backwaters. The Indian Coast Guard, Andhra Pradesh Marine Police, and fisheries authorities will enforce the ban. All fish caught before the ban must be sold by April 15th. The district fisheries officer, P. V. Srinivasa Rao, emphasized the importance of the ban for the sustainable fishing industry.
