**New Delhi, April 11, 2025** – A sudden and intense dust storm swept through Delhi, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh this evening, causing widespread disruption to flight operations and damaging property. Strong winds, lasting until 9 PM, reduced visibility and forced several airlines to delay or divert flights.
Air India reported delays and diversions for some of its flights to and from Delhi, while IndiGo issued a similar advisory, warning of potential flight impacts due to the severe weather. Videos circulating on social media showed the intensity of the storm, with dust and debris obscuring buildings and vehicles.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of potential crop damage and structural damage from the strong winds. They advised residents to remain indoors, avoid travel if possible, and take necessary precautions such as unplugging electrical appliances and avoiding shelter under trees or near concrete structures.
The storm’s impact was evident across the city. Reports emerged of falling tree branches in several areas, including Lodhi Garden and Delhi Gate, where one tree fell on a motorcycle. The dust storm followed a period of intense heatwave conditions; Monday saw the city’s maximum temperature reach 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this season, marking the start of a three-day heatwave. Wednesday recorded the warmest night in three years, with a minimum temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius. While Friday brought some relief with light drizzle, the dust storm served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the region’s weather.
