Fri Apr 11 12:45:22 UTC 2025: ## Dhoni Resumes Chennai Super Kings Captaincy Amidst Team Struggles

**Chennai, India** – MS Dhoni will once again lead the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), stepping in after a string of losses and an injury to regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK, five-time IPL champions, currently sit ninth in the ten-team league after losing four of their first five matches.

Gaikwad, who sustained a radial neck fracture in his elbow after being hit by a Jofra Archer delivery on March 30th, will miss the remainder of the tournament. Despite playing through pain in subsequent matches, an MRI revealed the extent of the injury.

Coach Stephen Fleming confirmed Dhoni’s return to the captaincy, stating that Dhoni readily agreed to help guide the team. Fleming also indicated that CSK will explore options within their current squad to replace Gaikwad, potentially bringing in players like Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, or Vansh Bedi. The team may also utilize their substitute player option.

Dhoni, who previously captained CSK from 2008 to 2023, winning five IPL titles, handed over the reins to Gaikwad before the 2024 season. His return comes as CSK faces a significant challenge, struggling to chase scores exceeding 180 runs due to inconsistent performances from their top and middle order. The team will look to Dhoni’s leadership to turn their fortunes around, starting with their match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
