Thu Apr 10 17:48:01 UTC 2025: ## Dhoni Returns as CSK Captain After Gaikwad’s Injury

**Chennai, India (April 10, 2025)** – MS Dhoni is back at the helm of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The five-time IPL champions announced today that Dhoni will captain the team for the remainder of IPL 2025 following a season-ending injury to regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Gaikwad suffered a hairline fracture in his elbow after being hit by a short ball from Jofra Archer. The injury was confirmed by CSK head coach Stephen Fleming, who announced Dhoni’s return to the captaincy role. The change in leadership will take effect immediately, starting with Friday’s match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai.

CSK, currently languishing in ninth place after a dismal start to the season with four losses in five matches, will be relying on Dhoni’s experience and leadership to turn their fortunes around. The 43-year-old, who previously led CSK to five IPL titles, relinquished the captaincy to Gaikwad at the beginning of the 2024 season.

While Dhoni praised Gaikwad’s temperament and decision-making skills, stating that the young captain made 99% of the in-game calls, the veteran’s return represents a significant shift for a struggling team. Dhoni also commented on the evolution of T20 cricket, noting the increased risk-taking and innovative shot selection employed by modern batsmen, and his own need to adapt.
