Thu Apr 10 18:25:26 UTC 2025: ## Bangladesh to Handle India’s Trans-shipment Cancellation Independently
**DHAKA, April 10, 2025** – Bangladesh will navigate the challenges posed by India’s cancellation of its trans-shipment facilities independently, according to Sheikh Bashir Uddin, the country’s Commerce Adviser. India revoked the facility on Wednesday, impacting Bangladeshi exports to West Asia, Europe, and other countries (excluding Nepal and Bhutan).
The decision follows controversial statements made by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, in China, where he suggested India’s northeastern states were landlocked and reliant on Bangladesh for ocean access. Yunus also invited China to utilize Bangladesh for global trade. These remarks sparked outrage in India, significantly impacting bilateral relations, which have been strained further by allegations of insufficient action to curb attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
Mr. Uddin stated that Bangladesh is actively working to mitigate the impact of the trans-shipment cancellation through infrastructure improvements and cost reduction strategies. He ruled out, for now, sending a formal letter to India regarding the matter. He cited a three-month suspension of additional tariffs by the United States as providing temporary relief and time for further discussions. Bangladesh is confident in its ability to overcome the logistical hurdles created by India’s decision.
