**Allahabad, UP** – The Allahabad High Court has ordered police protection for an interfaith couple and their minor daughter after the child alleged threats from her mother’s former in-laws. The court heard a plea from the daughter concerning the threats and ruled in favor of the couple, citing Supreme Court precedents that uphold the right of adults to live together regardless of marital status.
The couple, who are from different religious backgrounds, have been living together since 2018. They reported receiving threats and alleged police inaction, claiming they were humiliated when they attempted to file a complaint at a police station in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The court noted the parents’ concerns regarding the threats.
In response, the High Court directed the Superintendent of Police (Sambhal) to register a First Information Report (FIR) if the parents lodge another complaint. Furthermore, the SP has been instructed to investigate the need for security for the couple and their child.
Reports indicate the mother began living with her current partner after the death of her first husband, leading to the threats from her former in-laws. The court’s intervention ensures the family’s safety while the matter is under consideration.
