**New Delhi, India** – Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, arrived in India Thursday evening after being extradited from the United States. A 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian citizen, Rana was flown to India on a special flight following the failure of his last-minute legal appeals against extradition. A joint team from India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) escorted him.
Rana, a close associate of David Headley (alias Daood Gilani), a key conspirator in the attacks, is expected to be produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Security has been significantly heightened around the courthouse in anticipation of his arrival.
The 26/11 attacks, which took place on November 26, 2008, saw 10 Pakistani terrorists launch coordinated attacks across Mumbai, targeting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station, two luxury hotels (Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Oberoi Trident), and the Chabad House Jewish community center. The nearly 60-hour siege resulted in the deaths of 166 people. Rana’s extradition marks a significant development in India’s pursuit of justice for the victims of this devastating attack.
