Thu Apr 10 15:58:03 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka’s KSRTC to Launch Real-Time Bus Tracking System
**Bengaluru, April 10, 2025** – Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will launch a real-time bus tracking system in June, allowing commuters to track over 8,000 buses via a new mobile app. The Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System (VTMS) aims to improve transparency and reliability, enabling passengers to view live bus locations, plan journeys more effectively, and reduce wait times.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated the system will benefit lakhs of daily passengers, particularly those using city shuttle services and rural routes. The system will incorporate high-tech tracking devices, Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs), and emergency alert buttons on each bus, feeding real-time location data to a central control center and the passenger app.
The ₹30 crore project, funded 60% by the Union government and 40% by the state, includes advanced onboard units and a dedicated command center. KSRTC modeled the system partly on Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s truck tracking system, leveraging GPS, ICT, data analytics, and mobile platforms. The VTMS will also monitor speeding, route deviations, and other irregularities to improve safety and reduce accidents.
This initiative follows the successful launch of the “Namma BMTC” app in 2023, which provides similar real-time tracking for Bengaluru’s BMTC buses. The new KSRTC app is expected to provide a similar level of convenience and information to commuters across the state.
