**DELPHI, Ind. (13News)** – Newly released videos of police interrogations are offering a glimpse into the investigation that led to the arrest of Richard Allen for the 2017 murders of Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi. The videos, obtained by 13News from Tom Webster, include two separate interrogations – one on October 13, 2022, and another on the day of Allen’s arrest, October 26, 2022. Each interrogation lasts approximately 90 minutes.
In the earlier interrogation, Allen denied involvement in the girls’ deaths despite being confronted with evidence placing him near the Monon High Bridge Trail on the day of the murders. The October 26th interrogation, however, included more compelling evidence, including an unspent bullet linked to a firearm belonging to Allen. Despite this, Allen maintained his innocence until his wife, Kathy, joined the interrogation.
A third video includes eight phone calls between Allen and his wife and mother between November 2022 and June 2023. These calls contain several confessions from Allen admitting to the murders of Williams and German. These confessions were pivotal in securing his conviction, according to legal expert Brad Banks, a former prosecutor now working as a defense attorney. Banks stated that without these confessions, the prosecution’s case would have been significantly weaker.
Allen was ultimately sentenced to 130 years in prison in December 2024. His legal team has since filed an appeal. The release of these videos provides a more comprehensive understanding of the investigation and the evidence presented against Allen, highlighting the critical role the phone call confessions played in the case.
