**Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh:** A young couple from different communities was found dead hanging from a mango tree on the outskirts of Bihura village Thursday morning, prompting a police investigation. The deceased, identified as Suraj (21) and Nisha Bano (18), had been in a relationship for four years but faced strong opposition from their families due to their different religious backgrounds.
According to police, the couple had eloped a few days prior but returned home under family pressure. Three months ago, Suraj’s family arranged his marriage. Despite living only a few hundred meters apart, and frequently meeting in the mango orchard where their bodies were discovered, the couple were unable to overcome societal barriers.
Suraj’s wife reported him missing around 2 am Thursday, triggering a search that ended tragically when villagers found the couple hanging from a tree using a dupatta and gamchha (cotton towel) as a noose.
While police initially suspect suicide, Circle Officer Jagat Ram Kanojia stated that all possibilities, including pressure, threats, or even murder, are being investigated. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident has caused tension in the village, and a large police contingent has been deployed to maintain law and order. The investigation is ongoing.
