Mon Apr 07 10:13:22 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad’s CSIR Labs Drive Scientific Innovation, Minister Lauds Achievements

**Hyderabad, April 7, 2025** – Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, has praised Hyderabad’s burgeoning scientific ecosystem, highlighting the crucial role of CSIR institutions in driving innovation and national development. During a visit, he met with directors from three prominent CSIR labs – IICT, NGRI, and CCMB – to review their recent work.

The Minister lauded the contributions of the CSIR in drug discovery, genetic diagnostics, and the development of cost-effective Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), emphasizing their importance in achieving India’s goal of a self-reliant knowledge economy. He stressed the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and commercialization in science and technology.

CSIR-IICT reported advancements in developing safer agrochemicals and novel catalysts for industrial applications, as well as breakthroughs in compostable plastics and biogas production. CSIR-CCMB highlighted its achievements in molecular biology and genetic diagnostics, including the development of DNA fingerprinting technology and COVID-19 diagnostic kits. The institute also noted its work on the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission and its establishment of India’s first rare disease registry. Furthermore, CCMB’s Atal Incubation Centre supports over 160 biotech startups.

CSIR-NGRI showcased its development of India’s first strain map to assess earthquake vulnerability and its work on deep seismic profiling and geothermal energy exploration.

Minister Singh’s visit underscores the significant strides made by Hyderabad’s scientific community and the government’s ongoing support for scientific research and its translation into practical applications for national progress.
