**Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip –** Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 17 Palestinians, including a reporter, and wounded nine others, medics reported Monday. The strikes targeted areas near two major hospitals, where thousands of displaced Palestinians have sought refuge in tents.
Overnight strikes near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah resulted in multiple casualties. Yousef al-Faqawi, a reporter for the Palestine Today news website, was among those killed in the attack on a media tent outside Nasser Hospital. Six other reporters were injured in the same strike.
The Israeli military claimed to have targeted Hamas militants, stating they try to avoid civilian casualties but blaming Hamas for their presence in residential areas. However, hospitals reported receiving numerous bodies, including women and children, from various strikes across the territory.
This escalation follows Israel’s continued military offensive in Gaza since ending its ceasefire with Hamas last month. Israel’s blockade of food, fuel, medicine, and humanitarian aid for over a month is intended to pressure Hamas into accepting revised truce terms. The ongoing conflict began in October 2023 when Hamas militants attacked Israel. Israel vows to maintain its military pressure until Hamas releases hostages, disarms, and leaves Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to discuss a potential resettlement of Gazans with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington D.C. today.
Protests erupted outside Netanyahu’s residence, with families of hostages demanding the release of their loved ones. The death toll from the ongoing Israeli offensive exceeds 50,000 Palestinians according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, while Israel claims to have killed approximately 20,000 militants. The conflict has devastated Gaza, displacing a large portion of its population.
