Tue Apr 08 14:02:52 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Launches Statewide Campaign for Migrant Children’s Education
**Thiruvananthapuram, April 8, 2025** – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced a major campaign to ensure all children of migrant workers receive formal education. The initiative, slated for May, will focus on enrolling children in schools and addressing the unique educational challenges this vulnerable group faces.
The campaign will involve local government representatives, Kudumbasree workers (community development workers), teachers, and parent-teacher associations in a comprehensive outreach program. Building on successful past initiatives like Project Roshni, the state’s Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will develop a detailed educational program by April 30th. A high-level meeting in early May will finalize the action plan, involving representatives from various government departments.
To monitor enrollment, local governments will maintain updated registers of migrant children’s education, and a new registration system will track children moving due to seasonal migration. The campaign will also include health check-ups, medical camps, and awareness programs on hygiene and substance abuse. Public spaces for arts, sports, and creative activities will foster cultural exchange between local and migrant children.
Furthermore, a new portal and mobile application will facilitate Aadhaar-based registration of migrant workers, including modules to collect data on their children’s education. The announcement was made following a high-level meeting attended by key government officials, including the General Education Minister and Labour Secretary. The program will officially launch during the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s fourth-anniversary celebrations in Ernakulam on May 7th.
