**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** A horrific incident in Jaipur’s Nahargarh area left two people dead and eight injured after a drunk driver plowed through pedestrians and vehicles on Tuesday night. The accused, identified as Usman, was reportedly driving his Creta car at speeds of 70-80 kmph in a congested area.
According to eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage, Usman’s car careened down the road, striking numerous people, vehicles, and objects. One witness, Dipendra, described how the car hit a young girl before colliding with his motorbike near Santoshi Mata Mandir, dragging his bike for approximately 20 meters.
A brave bystander on a scooter pursued Usman’s speeding car, eventually managing to grab the steering wheel and help bring the vehicle to a halt after it crashed into a blockade. Usman fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after.
Among the injured is a three-year-old girl, according to BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, who is calling for increased police checkpoints in the area. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot described the incident as “heart-wrenching” and demanded that Usman face prosecution under the most serious possible charges.
The injured were rushed to the hospital, and Nahargarh police are currently investigating the incident. Usman is in custody.
