Sun Apr 06 22:54:00 UTC 2025: **Haryana Police Detain Dozen Maruti Workers During Protest**

**Gurugram, April 7, 2025** – Haryana Police detained approximately two dozen terminated Maruti Suzuki workers on Sunday in Sonipat during a protest demanding reinstatement and permanent employment for former temporary workers. The demonstration, organized by the Maruti Suzuki Struggle Committee and the newly formed Maruti Suzuki Asthayi Mazdoor Sangh, involved around 200 workers terminated following violence at the Manesar plant in 2012.

The protestors, who had notified the district administration in advance, allege police oppression, claiming they were prevented from holding a peaceful demonstration despite submitting an application for permission. Key demands included the hiring of 10,000 permanent workers, prioritizing those with experience at other Maruti plants, “equal pay for equal work,” and permanent employment for roles of a permanent nature. The Kharkhoda plant, slated to become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing units, currently employs only fixed-term and non-permanent workers.

Police stated the workers lacked permission and were detained for violating prohibitory orders intended to maintain law and order. The police also cited a complaint from Maruti Suzuki expressing concerns about potential violence. Those detained were released later in the evening.
