**Panaji, Goa – April 7, 2025** – Goa’s schools have begun their new academic year a month early, commencing on April 7th instead of the usual June start. This change, implemented as part of the state’s adoption of the National Education Policy, has resulted in a mixed response from students.
While approximately 90% of students across the state’s 2,153 schools (classes 5-12) attended classes on the first day, some expressed concerns about the hot weather. State Education Secretary Prasad Lolienkar, who visited several schools in Panaji to assess the situation, reported that 80% of students were pleased with the earlier start date.
“Most students are happy with the new arrangement,” Lolienkar stated, adding that while some students complained about the heat, the overall attendance demonstrated widespread acceptance. He also noted that student feedback included requests for improved sports facilities and coaching within schools. The government will consider these suggestions as it moves forward.
