**New Delhi, April 7, 2025** – Students at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) rallied on Monday in support of Associate Professor Kaustav Banerjee, who faces disciplinary action for allegedly inciting disorder during a student protest last month.
The university issued Banerjee a show-cause notice, claiming his speech at a March 24th public meeting, organized in response to the suspension of final-year student Mantasha Irfan, led to disruptions requiring police intervention. The notice alleges Banerjee’s remarks encouraged student indiscipline.
While Irfan’s suspension was revoked last week following a two-week protest, including a 72-hour sit-in, the university has yet to withdraw the notice against Banerjee. Students protesting on Monday demanded the notice’s immediate withdrawal and warned of further action if the university continues to target students and faculty.
The All India Students’ Association (AISA), which organized the initial protest against Irfan’s suspension, released a statement condemning the action against Banerjee, describing it as “witch-hunting of progressive voices.” Banerjee has 45 days to respond to the show-cause notice.
