**Chandigarh, April 6, 2025** – Prominent Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal ended his five-month-long hunger strike on Sunday. Dallewal, a leader of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), had begun his fast on November 26, 2024, demanding a legal guarantee on minimum support prices (MSP) for crops and other farmer-related issues.
His decision followed appeals from Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, who urged him to prioritize his health. The ministers’ appeals, made on Saturday, emphasized the ongoing dialogue between the government and farmer representatives, scheduled to resume on May 4th.
Dallewal announced the end of his fast at a farmers’ gathering in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district, stating that he was responding to the request of fellow farmers. While he had received medical attention during his fast, he had continued his hunger strike until the government’s appeal. The ministers expressed their hope for continued dialogue and a swift resolution to the farmers’ demands.
