**New Delhi, April 6, 2025** – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to end his 139-day hunger strike. The appeal comes despite Dallewal’s recent clarification that the strike continues. Chouhan stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the government remains committed to dialogue, reiterating a scheduled meeting with farmer representatives on May 4th. He expressed hopes for Dallewal’s speedy recovery following a recent hospitalization.

Dallewal, convener of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, began his fast to demand a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) for crops. The Supreme Court recently recognized him as a genuine leader without political affiliations. Previous talks between Chouhan, Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi, and representatives of the protesting farmers have taken place in Chandigarh. The May 4th meeting is intended to further these ongoing discussions.
