**TIRUPATI, April 6, 2025** – The Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT-T) marked its tenth anniversary this week, showcasing significant growth and commitment to sustainability. Established in 2015, the institute has transitioned from temporary premises to a sprawling 548-acre permanent campus in Yerpedu, designed to accommodate 12,000 students.
Initially starting with 106 students across four B.Tech programs, IIT-T now offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including a Master’s program in Public Policy – only the third IIT in India to offer such a program. The institute boasts a robust faculty of 139 members, who have published over 1,266 research works and secured over ₹210 crore in sponsored projects and consultancy work. Furthermore, IIT-T has forged partnerships with 50 universities, research institutions, and industry leaders.
The Yerpedu campus is a testament to sustainable design principles. Its features include two 10-acre lakes with an 80 million-litre rainwater harvesting capacity, a 600 KLD water treatment plant, and a 1 MW rooftop solar installation. These efforts have earned IIT-T a Four-Star GRIHA LD rating and multiple awards, including the CPWD’s ‘Best Completed Project Award 2024.’ The campus also showcases a remarkable commitment to biodiversity, with over 5,000 native tree saplings, 110,000 flowering shrubs, and a medicinal plant garden.
Director K.N. Satyanarayana highlighted the institute’s commitment to creating a visually appealing and eco-friendly environment, emphasizing the role of its dedicated faculty and staff in achieving these milestones. The institute’s rapid expansion and focus on sustainability position it for continued success in shaping future technocrats and contributing to India’s technological advancement.
