**COIMBATORE, April 5, 2025** – The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested the Secretary and a computer operator of Makkinampatty Village Panchayat near Pollachi on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe.
M. Senthilkumar, the Panchayat Secretary, and N. Jayalakshmi, a temporary computer operator, were apprehended in a sting operation. The bribe, totaling ₹6,100, was solicited from N. Manickavasagam, a Tiruppur resident who had applied for property tax and a water connection. While the official fees amounted to ₹4,000, Senthilkumar allegedly demanded an additional ₹6,100 to process the application.
Manickavasagam, unwilling to pay the bribe, reported the incident to the DVAC Coimbatore office. The subsequent investigation led to Friday’s arrests, with Jayalakshmi caught receiving the bribe on Senthilkumar’s instructions. Both accused are now facing corruption charges.
