**New Delhi, India** – Delegations representing Manipur’s Meitei and Kuki communities have travelled to Delhi for peace talks scheduled for Saturday, sources confirmed. The meeting, facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to resolve the ongoing conflict that erupted in May 2023, resulting in over 250 deaths and thousands displaced.
The Meitei delegation includes representatives from the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS). The Kuki delegation comprises members from the Zomi Council, Hmar Inpi, and the Kuki Zo Council.
AMUCO’s delegation is led by president Nanda Luwang, alongside senior advisors Ito Tongram and Dhanabir Laishram. FOCS has also confirmed participation.
While the Kuki leadership recently issued three pre-conditions for the talks, including restrictions on inter-district movement in areas dominated by either community, it remains unclear whether these demands have been met.
The talks represent the latest attempt by the central government to broker peace in Manipur. President’s rule was imposed on February 13th following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The success of these negotiations will be crucial in determining the path towards stability in the strife-torn state.
