Sat Apr 05 08:44:12 UTC 2025: **Kerala on Yellow Alert as Heavy Rain Predicted**
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 5, 2025 – Heavy rainfall is expected across Kerala over the next two days, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for six districts. The alert, effective Saturday, April 5th, covers Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad. A similar alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, and Wayanad on Sunday, April 6th.
The IMD attributes the anticipated downpour to an upper cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal and a north-south trough extending from Maharashtra to Tamil Nadu. The confluence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is expected to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
Konni in Pathanamthitta district experienced the heaviest rainfall in the past 24 hours, recording 70 mm. Alathur and Malampuzha in Palakkad, and Vadakara in Kozhikode also saw significant rainfall, each recording 60 mm. The IMD advises residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant.
