**Thane, Maharashtra –** A severe dust storm swept through Thane city on Friday, April 4th, 2025, causing damage to an unauthorized seven-storey building and prompting the evacuation of several residents. According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, strong winds cracked the walls of two terrace-level rooms in the structure located in the Mumbra area.
Emergency responders, including the fire brigade and disaster management personnel, swiftly arrived on the scene. They removed the damaged sections of the building, preventing a potential collapse. As a precaution, six residential units were evacuated and sealed.
While no injuries were reported, the storm also caused five instances of fallen trees across Thane and resulted in damage to numerous vehicles. The incident highlights the risks associated with unauthorized construction in the face of severe weather.
