**Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, April 5, 2025** – The Kurnool district administration has unveiled a comprehensive three-month action plan under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), focusing on water conservation and infrastructure development. The plan, aligned with state government priorities, involves a significant investment of ₹300 crore over the next year.
Key initiatives include the construction of 300 cattle water tanks (₹1 crore), 8,500 farm ponds (₹54 crore, providing 12 lakh workdays), and desilting/strengthening of 138 tanks and ponds. An additional ₹300 crore will be allocated as a wage component, providing an average daily wage of ₹307. The district also plans to desilt nearly 3,000 km of canals.
The administration highlighted the success of MGNREGA projects in 2024-25, citing the construction of 119.72 km of roads (₹78 crore), placing the district first statewide. Other achievements include the desilting of tanks and ponds (₹17.03 crore, resulting in 149.60 crore liters of water percolation), canal desilting (₹92.91 crore), construction of 751 ‘Gokulams’ (₹11.50 crore), and commercial crop cultivation across 3,774 acres (₹5.86 crore). A total of 2.14 lakh families benefited from 89 lakh wage days, totaling ₹250 crore in wages. The ambitious plan aims to further boost rural development and employment in the district.
