Fri Apr 04 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Kolkata Braces for Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Across South Bengal

**Kolkata, India** – South Bengal is bracing for a severe weather system bringing thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the region, including Kolkata, according to a weather forecast issued today by the meteorological department.

The forecast predicts thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall across all districts of South Bengal. Wind gusts of 40-50 kilometers per hour are expected, with a possibility of hail in some western districts including Purulia, Bankura, West Burdwan, West Medinipur, East Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Birbhum, and Murshidabad. Kolkata will also experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The weather system is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over North Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal. This increased moisture content is leading to cloudy skies and heightened chances of precipitation.

While some scattered showers are expected in South Bengal on Saturday and Sunday, the intensity is expected to increase significantly on Monday. Monday’s forecast includes widespread thunderstorms with rain and wind gusts reaching 30-40 kilometers per hour. North Bengal is also expected to see increased rainfall from Sunday onwards, particularly in the northern districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, with similar wind speeds. Malda district will also experience thunderstorms.

The forecast anticipates partly cloudy skies in the morning, transitioning to fully cloudy skies in the afternoon. Temperatures are not expected to fluctuate significantly. The weather department advises residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
