Thu Apr 03 19:04:24 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Water Crisis: South Chennai Areas Face Four-Day Water Shortage
**Chennai, April 4, 2025** – A burst pipeline in the Valluvar Kottam distribution station has left several south Chennai areas without piped water for four days. Residents in Choolaimedu and T. Nagar have been particularly affected, with many relying on borewells and water tankers to meet their needs.
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) stated that a section of an old 10-meter pipeline on 100 Feet Road in Arumbakkam was damaged, impacting water supply to R.A. Puram, Valluvar Kottam, Nungambakkam, T. Nagar, and parts of Ashok Nagar. Approximately 40 million liters of water are usually supplied daily to Zone 9 alone.
While repairs are underway, the CMWSSB assures residents that water supply will be fully restored by Friday evening. To mitigate the shortage, the board has increased the number of water tanker trips in addition to water from the Kilpauk Water Works.
Residents expressed frustration over the recurring water disruptions and called for better communication from authorities and a permanent solution to the problem. One resident, R. Mythili of Choolaimedu, highlighted the frequent disruptions and the increased reliance on alternative sources, particularly during summer months. The previous day’s planned water cut for metro rail work has only exacerbated the current situation.
