Fri Apr 04 16:35:12 UTC 2025: ## Comedian Russell Brand Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault

**London, UK** – Comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with rape and several other sexual offences, the Metropolitan Police announced Friday. The 49-year-old faces one count of rape, one count of oral rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The alleged offences involve four women and occurred between 1999 and 2005 in Bournemouth and London.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the charges following a police investigation triggered by allegations made after a Channel 4 documentary aired in September 2023. Jaswant Narwal of the CPS stated that they carefully reviewed the evidence before reaching their decision.

Brand, known for his controversial stand-up routines and past marriage to pop star Katy Perry, has denied the accusations. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), he acknowledged past addictions but vehemently denied ever engaging in non-consensual activity. He stated his intention to defend himself in court.

The Metropolitan Police’s Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy confirmed the investigation remains open and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. Brand, who is believed to be residing in the United States, was charged by post and is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Westminster on May 2nd.

Brand’s career has spanned stand-up comedy, acting, television presenting (including roles at the BBC), and writing. He has amassed a significant online following across various platforms. Despite his success, he’s also known for his outspoken views and self-described past struggles with addiction. He is currently married with three children.
