Fri Apr 04 14:58:21 UTC 2025: ## Singer Charged for Performing “Revolutionary Songs” at Temple Festival
**Kollam, Kerala – April 4, 2025** – A singer, Aloshi Adams, has been charged with performing “revolutionary songs” glorifying the CPI(M) at a recent temple festival in Kollam district. The FIR, filed under the Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, names Mr. Adams as the first accused, along with two unnamed members of the temple advisory committee.
Mr. Adams maintains he was simply fulfilling audience requests and was unaware of the legal ramifications until informed by media reports. He stated that he has performed similar songs at temple events before and received no direction from organizers regarding song selection.
However, Vishnu Sunil, who filed a complaint with the Kerala High Court and the Kadakkal police, expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s action. He argues that the temple advisory committee and Devaswom officials should be the primary accused, citing their responsibility for managing the festival and alleging the current charge is an attempt to weaken the case. Mr. Sunil points to prior High Court orders prohibiting such songs and has filed a complaint with the State Police Chief to include the temple officials as accused.
The controversy stemmed from the performance at the Kadakkal Temple festival on March 10th, where Mr. Adams sang songs about late CPI(M) worker Puthukudi Pushpan, with DYFI and CPI(M) flags displayed. The FIR alleges Mr. Adams chanted slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad, DYFI Zindabad, and CPI(M) Zindabad,” with the other accused facilitating the performance. The case now awaits further legal proceedings.
