**NEW DELHI, April 4, 2025** – The Delhi government will prioritize enrolling beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), a subsidized ration scheme for the poor, into the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) health insurance scheme, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced Thursday. The BJP government, which made the scheme’s implementation a campaign promise, aims to add 100,000 beneficiaries in the first month.
Approximately 68,708 AAY beneficiaries, as per 2021 data, and an estimated 1.7 million “Priority Household” ration card holders will be given priority enrollment. The previous AAP government had declined to implement PM-JAY, citing its own health insurance program. Delhi has allocated ₹2,144 crore for the scheme.
