Fri Apr 04 12:05:16 UTC 2025: ## Over 200 Children Screened Under RBSK Initiative in Tiruchi District

**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, April 4, 2025** – Over 200 children aged 0-18 have received health screenings in Tiruchi district under the central government’s Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) initiative since April 2024. The program, aimed at reducing child mortality and morbidity through early detection and treatment, screened 269 children for 30 different diseases categorized under four conditions: birth defects, developmental delays, deficiencies, and diseases.

According to a Friday release from the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, 158 children received medication, while 111 underwent surgeries. A significant number of surgeries (77) addressed congenital heart disease, with other procedures including those for clubfoot, cleft lip and palate, congenital deafness, congenital cataract, rheumatic heart disease, and neural tube defects.

Thirty mobile health teams, each comprising a medical officer, staff nurse, pharmacist, and driver, visited anganwadis and schools to implement the program. Children requiring further treatment are referred to the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC).
