**Hyderabad, April 3, 2025** – Hyderabad is set to receive ₹112.36 crore from the 15th Finance Commission to improve air quality, as announced at a City Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee meeting today. The meeting, chaired by GHMC Commissioner K. Ilambarti, brought together representatives from various city departments and agencies to strategize on implementing air pollution reduction initiatives.

Key initiatives discussed include expanding the city’s air quality monitoring stations, a study by IIT Hyderabad on optimizing mechanical road sweepers, and a push to replace old diesel buses with CNG-powered alternatives under the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). Bhagyanagar Gas Limited will provide fuel concessions and operational support for these eco-friendly buses.

The Traffic Police also highlighted their carpooling initiatives aimed at reducing both congestion and pollution. Furthermore, progress on digitizing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates was reported, with 478 out of 550 vehicles now connected to the online central server.

Commissioner Ilambarti stressed the importance of inter-departmental collaboration to achieve tangible improvements in air quality, particularly focusing on reducing particulate matter (PM10) levels and enhancing the Air Quality Index (AQI).
