**Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, April 4, 2025** – With rising temperatures and the looming threat of a heatwave, the Mayiladuthurai district administration has issued a public health advisory. District Collector H. S. Srikanth urged residents to take precautions to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.

The advisory recommends avoiding outdoor activity between 12 noon and 3 p.m., unless absolutely necessary. Staying hydrated is crucial, with the Collector emphasizing sufficient water intake even if one doesn’t feel thirsty. Residents are encouraged to consume fluids like ORS, fruit juices, buttermilk, and coconut water. Light cotton clothing, sunglasses, and light-colored umbrellas are recommended when venturing outdoors.

Special attention is being given to vulnerable groups. Parents are urged to monitor children closely for signs of dehydration and never leave them unattended in vehicles. The elderly are advised to undergo regular health checks and take cooling measures to prevent heatstroke. Livestock owners are instructed to provide shade and sufficient water for their animals.

The administration also warned of increased fire hazards due to the intense heat, urging residents to disconnect gas cylinders at night and store important documents safely. Anyone experiencing dizziness or illness is advised to seek immediate medical attention.
