Fri Apr 04 14:18:59 UTC 2025: ## Indian Media and Entertainment Sector Shows Strong Growth Despite Television Revenue Dip

**NEW DELHI, April 4, 2025** – India’s media and entertainment (M&E) sector experienced robust growth in 2023, reaching ₹2.32 trillion, an 8.1% increase from the previous year, according to a report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The sector is projected to reach ₹3.08 trillion by 2026, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate of 10%.

While the overall sector thrived, the television broadcasting segment showed mixed results. Although television contributes approximately 30% of total M&E revenue, overall revenue slightly decreased from ₹70,900 crore in 2022 to ₹69,600 crore in 2023, a decline of 1.8%. This dip is attributed to a decrease in advertisement revenue, which fell from ₹31,800 crore to ₹29,700 crore, despite a rise in subscription revenue from ₹39,200 crore to ₹39,900 crore.

The report highlights the significant role of television in India’s economic growth, particularly given the country’s young population. The digital media sector, however, demonstrated remarkable growth, experiencing a 38% surge in subscriptions in 2023.

In contrast to the television decline, the private FM radio broadcasting sector saw a rise in advertisement revenue, increasing from ₹1,547.13 crore to ₹1,775.79 crore in 2023-24. As of March 31, 2024, 388 private FM stations operated across 113 cities.

The TRAI report underscores the dynamism of the Indian M&E sector, with digital platforms driving growth while the traditional television market navigates changing advertising landscapes. The young population continues to present significant opportunities for the industry’s future expansion.
