**Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh** – A large-scale protest erupted in Fatehpur district today after the alleged dowry death of a woman, Roshni Devi. Dozens of members of the Gulabi Gang, a women’s activist group, joined the victim’s family in a demonstration at the Radhanagar police station, demanding immediate arrests.
Roshni Devi’s body was discovered in a mortuary after she went missing on March 13th. Her mother, Rekha Devi, alleges that her daughter was murdered by her in-laws over a dowry dispute and accuses the police of inaction in the investigation. She claims police failed to assist in the search for her daughter.
While police have registered a case against four individuals, including Roshni’s husband, no arrests have been made. This inaction has fueled the outrage, with Gulabi Gang member Hemlata Patel stating that Roshni was beaten to death and accusing the police of negligence.
Radhanagar police claim that the accused husband sustained serious injuries in a reported mob attack and has provided a medical report indicating vision loss. Police maintain that teams are actively searching for the accused but have yet to make any arrests. Authorities have assured that action will be taken against all those implicated. The lack of arrests, however, continues to fuel the protests and calls for justice.
