Fri Apr 04 11:07:13 UTC 2025: ## ED Raids Producer of Mohanlal Starrer ‘L2: Empuraan’ Over Foreign Exchange Violations

**Chennai, April 4, 2025** – The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Gokulam Gopalan, a prominent Malayalam film producer and businessman, on Friday. The raids, part of an ongoing investigation into alleged foreign exchange violations, targeted his chit fund office in Chennai’s Kodambakkam, his residence in Neelangarai, and several other locations in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Gopalan, one of the producers of the recently released Mohanlal film *L2: Empuraan*, was also questioned by ED officials in Kozhikode. The investigation centers on alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) involving transactions worth approximately ₹1,000 crore with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), along with other unauthorized transactions.

The ED is also scrutinizing separate cases registered against Sree Gopalan Chit and Finance Company Limited, Gopalan’s company, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The searches covered five locations in total, including financial institutions and business offices under the Gokulam Group.

This development comes after *L2: Empuraan*, released on March 27, 2025, underwent 24 “voluntary cuts” following criticism from right-wing groups.
