Thu Apr 03 19:20:58 UTC 2025: ## OMR Residents Demand Extension of Chennai’s Local Area Plan
**Chennai, April 4, 2025** – Residents along Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), also known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai, are urging the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to extend its Local Area Plan (LAP) to Siruseri. Currently, the LAP covers only a 10-km stretch, leaving a significant portion of the IT Corridor and areas within Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) limits excluded.
Satish Galley, an OMR resident, highlighted the economic importance of the IT Corridor, stating that the omission of the stretch between Sholinganallur and Siruseri hinders equitable development. The Federation of OMR Resident Associations (FOMRRA) echoed these concerns, emphasizing the growing population and the planned terminus of the CMRL line in Siruseri. Rakesh Ohri, a FOMRRA member, pointed out the substantial tax revenue generated from areas like Sholinganallur, advocating for the LAP’s extension to ensure balanced growth.
P.K. Sekarbabu, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and CMDA Chairman, has promised to review the residents’ request. The extension is seen as crucial for the continued development of this vital economic corridor.
