**New Delhi, April 4, 2025** – The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is taking proactive steps to protect the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Khuldabad, Maharashtra, from potential damage by extremist groups, the Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat revealed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Responding to a query, Minister Shekhawat confirmed that Aurangzeb’s tomb is an ASI-protected monument, and details are available on the ASI website. He detailed the security measures implemented, including a 12-foot-high metal sheet enclosure, concertina wire atop surrounding walls to deter trespassers, deployment of private security personnel alongside ASI staff, and regular inspections. These measures, he stated, are being undertaken in coordination with the local district administration.
