**Chennai, April 4, 2025** – The AIADMK staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today after Speaker M. Appavu refused permission to Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami to raise a law and order issue. The issue concerned the March 24th ransacking of YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar’s house.

Mr. Palaniswami argued that the Assembly should be a forum for discussing crucial issues impacting the public. He criticized the Speaker’s rejection of a Calling Attention Motion submitted ten days prior, alleging the government’s inaction on the matter was the reason for the rejection. He contrasted this with the DMK’s experience in opposition, stating that their Calling Attention Motions were always discussed when the AIADMK was in power.

Mr. Palaniswami also criticized the DMK’s unfulfilled promise of holding Assembly sessions for at least 100 days a year, made during the 2021 elections. He further described the upcoming meeting of legislature party leaders, convened by the Chief Minister to discuss NEET, as an attempt to deceive the public, although he did not definitively state whether the AIADMK would participate. The walkout highlights growing tensions between the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK over law and order and other political issues.
