**Nalgonda, Telangana –** The Telangana government has commenced the distribution of fine rice to ration card holders through ration shops this month. This initiative comes amidst a significant backlog of ration card applications, with many citizens waiting over a decade for processing.

Recent government efforts to address this issue involved multiple application periods for new ration cards and additions to existing cards. Revenue officials are diligently verifying these applications, with a significant portion of the process already completed.

As of Thursday, 8,273 applications for new ration cards were received across the district, with 96% of these already verified. Similarly, 39,900 applications for adding names to existing cards have been received, with 95% verified.

The highest number of applications, both for new cards and additions, were received in Miryalaguda mandal. Here, 99% of new card applications and 97% of name addition applications have been processed. Nalgonda mandal follows Miryalaguda as the second highest in application numbers.

Miryalaguda Tahsildar N. Haribabu stated that special teams are working to expedite the verification process and that completed applications are being uploaded online daily. Despite the progress, some applications remain pending at the RI and Tahsildar levels. The government aims to resolve the backlog swiftly to ensure all eligible citizens receive their benefits.
