AMARAVATI, Andhra Pradesh – April 4, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRT) has released tenders for the first phase of construction of the NRT Icon building in Amaravati. The iconic structure, initially stalled, is now set to resume construction after overcoming legal hurdles following a change in government.
The project, estimated at ₹600 crore (approximately $73 million USD), will be a twin-tower complex spanning 36 floors, including a podium. The initial tender covers the foundation work, with subsequent tenders planned for the superstructure and exterior finishing. The building is slated for completion by 2028.
Funded entirely by Non-Resident Telugu (NRT) individuals, the building will feature residential flats and office spaces exclusively for NRTs. The design includes a two-level basement for parking, a three-story podium, and 33 floors above. One tower will house residential units, while the other will be dedicated to commercial offices, potentially creating 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.
A unique feature will be a globe-shaped structure between the two towers, offering a 360-degree view of Amaravati. The globe will incorporate restaurants, a kitchen, executive dining hall, and a lounge. The complex will also feature a club house, a 2,000-seat auditorium, and a 1,500-seat amphitheater.
The project was initially launched between 2014 and 2019, with 104 NRTs already having contributed ₹33 crore towards the purchase of flats. Construction was halted after a change in government, but has now been revived. The deadline for tender submissions is April 10, 2025.
